Two women artists, singer/song-writer extraordinaire, Teresa Tudury and veteran dancer/choreographer, Virginia Matthews talk about creating from an authentic place, sharing experiences that got them here and the perspective of a significant portion of their life honing their craft. Teresa will perform some of her songs that especially speak for many women as they seek to mine wisdom from their life experiences. In exploring these songs in some depth we will look at the importance of taking a seat on “the throne of knowing” with the intention of “not yielding” (quoted from Teresa Tudury’s song My Starry Crown from her latest album Such Fine Things).

Teresa Tudury has been writing songs and singing since the age of 12 until the present. She has performed and/or recorded with Leonard Cohen, Lyle Lovett, Leo Kottke and other artists. Her extraordinary voice and beautifully crafted songs have been recognized throughout the music world. She is a gifted comedic and character actress, having appeared on stage and screen. Teresa has also been involved in healing work through counseling and seminars. A lifelong involvement in metaphysics informs her work.

Virginia Matthews has been a professional dancer/choreographer since 1973 when she became a founding member of The Margaret Jenkins Dance Co. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College where her passion for modern dance was ignited under mentors Bessie Schoenberg and Merce Cunningham, she has also taught dance continuously for all ages and abilities since 1970. A prolific choreographer (over 60 works) she is a recipient of The National Endowment Award for Choreography. Her Zen practice with Sasaki Roshi over the past 37 years has deeply influenced her work and she has taken his advice “to dance for the ants at the back of the auditorium.
