Kriya Yoga is an ancient method of living and meditation that cultivates body, mind, intellect, and awareness of the soul using powerful meditative and yogic disciplines. It helps us to experience the three divine qualities of light, vibration, and sound by using techniques of concentration, posture, and breathing. This develops a one-pointed mind, which enables us to penetrate the deepest levels of consciousness and to change our lives. Kriya Yoga teaches that any action, kri, is done by ya, the indwelling soul. It is a universal spiritual discipline that crosses all divisions and boundaries.
Swami Atmavidyananda was born to a traditional Brahmin family in Bhopal, India. He met Paramahamsa Hariharananda, was initiated into Kriya Yoga in 1994, and was ordained as a monk in the Giri monastic order in February 2009 and given the name Swami Atmavidyananda, which means "bliss of Self-knowledge". He is traveling and teaching Kriya Yoga in the USA, Canada, and Europe. Yogacharya Richard Peterson was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Paramahamsa Hariharananda in 1979. He teaches music and English in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was authorized to teach Kriya Yoga in May 2007.
