Bookstore Event for The Magic of Vajrayana with Ken McLeod
Ken McLeod, author of The Magic of Vajrayana
Original Date: Thursday, March 23, 2023
The Magic of Vajrayana is a unique contribution to the vast Buddhist teaching literature, and to spiritual practice literature more generally. Not just a description of the Vajrayana tradition's ideas and practices, it invites and enables the reader to "taste" what can arise in a serious Vajrayana engagement. Although I was never a student of Vajrayana myself, I have read a fair number of books about the tradition; but no other book in my previous experience supported a sense of why a person born in the west would be drawn to engage with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This book helped me grok why and how people attracted to Vajrayana find so much in the tradition. Moreover, the book contains many insights and recommendations relevant to practitioners in diverse other traditions. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
After he met his teacher Kalu Rinpoche, Ken McLeod began a study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism that lasted more than twenty years. He translated for his own and other Tibetan teachers. After his teacher's passing he moved away from the hierarchical structures of Asian Buddhism, and founded Unfettered Mind in Los Angeles in 1990. Now retired from formal teaching, he lives in Sonoma county where he hikes and writes. His other titles include Wake Up To Your Life, Reflections on Silver River, A Trackless Path, An Arrow to the Heart, and a translation of Jangon Kongtrul's The Great Path of Awakening. An archive of his teachings, translations, and writing, along with current writing, can be found at unfetteredmind.org.
