Pythagoras, remembered now as a mathematician, was actually a moral philosopher whose 'transmigration of souls' doctrine led him to become, in the words of a New Yorker article, 'the world's first vegetarian.' My research on Pythagoras has led me to a perspective centered on the permanence of the atomic world, a perspective similar to transmigration. My Pythagorean discussion will be accompanied by the reading of poems from my sonnet sequence Pythagoras in Love and the more recent Wandering Electron.

Lee Slonimsky's latest poetry collection is Wandering Electron from Spuyten Duyvil Press. His first detective novel, Bermuda Gold, is forthcoming from Moonshine Cove Publishing in June 2015, and his sixth poetry collection, Red-Tailed Hawk on Wall Street, will be published by Spuyten Duyvil in 2016. Lee's poems, stories and essays have appeared in Atlanta Review, Best of Asheville Poetry Review, The Carolina Quarterly, The Homestead Review, Measure, New Ohio Review, The New York Times, and Poetry Daily, and have received seven Pushcart Prize nominations and one for Best of the Web. He conducts a New York City poetry writing workshop, 'Walking with the Sonnet,' which has also been known to meet in Healdsburg, CA.
